Linyu Shen

Beyond the South

Logline: In a mist-covered mountain village, a young woman's life begins to shift with the arrival of two wandering musicians, as their fleeting melodies awaken her to the invisible ties between the living, the land, and the spirit.

Bio: Linyu Shen is a Chinese writer-director based between New York and Melbourne, currently pursuing her MFA at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Working across moving images, dance, and text, she investigates processes of translation between forms, as well as the unseen connections between people, nature, and memory.
Her work develops through attention to gesture, temporality, and the shifting relations between bodies and their surroundings, approaching states that resist resolution, where meaning shifts and slips, speech begins to falter, and experience is rewritten through repetition and variation, testing its limits between yielding and resistance.
